Young Adult Program (YAP)
The Young Adult Program (YAP) gives motivated young adults the opportunity to learn, grow, and serve alongside experienced members of our team. Designed to build confidence, leadership, teamwork, and real-world skills, YAP provides hands-on experiences in a supportive and challenging environment.
The NSP Young Adult Patroller (YAP) Program is a volunteer educational program that provides a structure and atmosphere for young adults, ages 15 through 17, that will help them develop and enrich their lives as they make the transition from teenagers to adulthood by learning skills around snow sports safety and injury prevention, emergency care and response in the outdoors environment, skiing and snowboarding, physical fitness, leadership, and ski patrolling.
Do You Want To Have A Young Adult Patroller Program?
Here are some things to consider.
- What can YAPs do at your mountain? This is usually determined by resort ownership/management
- What will the group ratio be for your program? What's a good size to start a YAP program?
- How can we make this program not only valuable for the YAPs, but the entire patrol long term?
- How can we make this program not only a great learning experience, but FUN!
- How will you engage with YAPs? Your approach will be different from engaging adult patrollers.
Additional Training Required
NSP Policies and Procedures requires that all NSP leadership and any members working with protected patries complete youth protection training from an NSP-approved training source.
- Please enroll in the "Youth Protection Training Submission" course in your Center for Learning. Follow the steps that are provided within that course.
