About

Who We Are

Northern Division of the National Ski Patrol — a member-driven organization of registered patrols serving the Northern Rockies and the high plains.

The National Ski Patrol (NSP) keeps outdoor recreation safe through world-class education, credentialing, and outreach. Chartered by Congress in 1980 for its dedication to winter sports safety, the NSP has grown into a powerful network of over 26,000 members serving in more than 600 patrols across the U.S. and Europe.

Here in the Northern Division, our 16 alpine, nordic, and bike patrols cover ski areas across Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and northern Wyoming. Every volunteer and professional patroller is trained to the NSP’s gold standard—ensuring expert emergency care and rescue services whenever you hit the trails.

Mission

The Northern Division is a member-driven organization of registered ski patrols and patrollers. We support members with credentialed training in leadership, Outdoor Emergency Care, safety, and transportation so they can help communities enjoy outdoor recreation safely.

Other NSP divisions include the Pacific Northwest, Far West, Intermountain, Rocky Mountain, Central, Southern, Eastern, and European Divisions. National programs live at nsp.org.

Preserving Our Legacy

Division Historian Steven Thompson is actively collecting patrol histories, vintage photographs, and equipment evolutions. If your patrol has a story to share, we’d love to hear from you.
